Case study: Aurora Multimedia AV over IP range integral to high-performance AV experience in American Dream mega mall

American Dream Mega Mall

The East Rutherford, New Jersey American Dream™ mega mall, just 30 minutes from New York City, began a phased opening in late 2019. The 278,000-m2 property is 70% entertainment; equipped with the Nickelodeon Universe® theme Park, Big SNOW American Dream™ North America's first “real snow” indoor ski/snowboard park, DreamWorks Water Park, a full-size ice-skating rink, miniature golf, indoor gardens, and a variety of other attractions.

American Dream™ takes entertainment, dining, and retail to a new level, underpinned by interactive and immersive audio and video. Set to become one of North America's leading and largest visitor experiences, the American Dream™ is a feast for the senses. The multiple LED walls and digital signage kiosks throughout the mega mall support a fantastic visitor experience, delivering information-sharing, wayfinding, and interactive entertainment. Aurora Multimedia’s video distribution equipment drives all of this.

Aurora Multimedia delivers a large-scale, high-quality audio/video experience throughout this mega mall. It is a powerful, flexible Ethernet network utilising advanced AV over IP technology.

The challenge

Networked AV-over-IP was the solution for an AV project of this scale. Bandwidth was integral to supporting a huge matrix of 360 sources and 300 destinations and, therefore, critical to this massive installation.

Aurora Multimedia’s critical role in the project included the provision of its ground-breaking 10G IPX Series, an IP/AV streaming product. It is the industry’s first 4K2K transceiver with zero compression and latency, which synergises various IP/AV standards to work together as one and is based on Aurora’s IPBaseT® proprietary technology.

The solution: AV over IP

IPX-TC3-PRO by Aurora is the main solution. “Any device can be plugged into any port on any switch, and it will be available everywhere, says Aurora.” The choice is important. That is why the IPX fibre version has an SFP+ port that can use single or multi-mode fibre − making the IPX Series the ultimate AV IP product on the market today.

Additionally, there are several of Aurora’s IP-24PoE as it powers this project's fibre units. The IP-24PoE+ is the first ever 24 port PoE+/PoH+ injector delivering power on a 10G connection.

It is compatible with any standard 1G or 10G network switch and delivers up to 30 watts of power per port. This alleviates the need for a local power supply and allows for a clean installation of the 10G PoE-capable device.

Aurora designed the IP-24PoE+ for its IPX Series AV over IP product line, as it currently is the only 10G AV over IP with PoE. The IP-24PoE+ can also supply power to Aurora's HDBaseT™ PoH products, providing remote powering.

In the case of an underpowered PoE network switch, the IP-24PoE+ provided the additional power to the ports requiring it and simply added PoE+ to ports lacking. Taking up only 1RU of rack space, Aurora’s IP-24PoE+ is the only 10G PoE+ solution for a clean installation.

There is full 4K60, 4:4:4, 10Gb data to every kiosk and LED wall, delivering consistent, latency-free image quality, coupled with Aurora’s IPBaseT® Manager software, controlling and routing all signalling. This results in a powerful, flexible AV network that can keep pace with future changes/upgrades throughout the American Dream mega mall.
